Wrath Of God Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped theme prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Your wrath is not a tantrum. It is Your holy stand against all that is evil and wrong. A God who did not hate the abuse of children, the trafficking of women, the corruption of the powerful — that God would not be good. Your wrath is part of Your goodness.
The terror is that I am caught up in it, too. By nature, I was a child of wrath, just like anyone else. But the relief is that the wrath was satisfied in Christ for those who are His.
Hold both halves for me, Father. Save me from a God shrunk down to only comfort. Save me also from a God shrunk down to only anger. You are righteous, wrathful, merciful, and gracious — all at once. The cross is where all of that meets in one event.
Amen.
