Theme

Worship Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped theme prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You said You are looking for people who worship You in spirit and in truth. That word cut through the argument the woman at the well was having. Mountain or temple — it did not matter. The where was a smaller question than the how. I get caught in the same trap. I look for the right music, the right room, the right mood, and I miss the spirit and the truth that You are really after. Take me into true worship today, in whatever room I happen to be standing in. Let the dishes be holy. Let the car ride be holy. Let the board meeting be holy, if my spirit is Yours and I am living in Your truth. Receive what I am bringing.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
