Worldliness Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped theme prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word says not to love the world or the things in the world. Help me understand what that means. You made the world and called it good. But there is a system of pride, greed, and self-rule that runs human life without You. That system has shaped me more than I admit. It shapes how I measure success. It shapes how I judge other people. It shapes how I spend my Saturdays. It shapes what I think a good life looks like. Most of these beliefs slipped in without my noticing. Pull them out of me. Replace the world's measures with Yours. The world's measures will end in disappointment, because the world is passing away. Your measures last when everything else fades. Make me less worldly, but do not make me sour. The answer to worldliness is not less joy. It is a deeper joy, rooted in something that will not wear out. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
