Unity Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped theme prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Jesus prayed that we would all be one, just as You are in him and he is in You. He prayed that the world would believe because we belong to each other. For two thousand years, that prayer has been only partly answered. We are still divided. We still fight. We still hurt each other in churches that should know better. Father, work in me as one small repair to the larger fracture. Mend the friendship in my church that has been strained for two months. Help me be kind to the brother in another church whose beliefs I would say differently. The unity Christ prayed for is not sameness. It is a unity in him that the world is meant to notice. Make us noticeable. Let the world see that we belong to each other, and let that lead them to believe in You. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
