Standing In The Gap Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped theme prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, in Ezekiel, You looked for someone to stand in the gap for the land, and You found no one. That warning still speaks. The gap in front of me is smaller than a nation, but it is still a gap. A family member who has wandered. A colleague headed for trouble. A community coming apart at the edges. Make me a gap-stander. Show up at the gap with me. Send other intercessors to stand with me. The work is often invisible, but You see it. The breach can be filled. The loss can be turned back. Use these prayers, and the prayers of Your people, to that end. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
