Perseverance Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped theme prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord, You told us in Hebrews 12:1 to run the race set before us with endurance. Not quickly. Not perfectly. With endurance. This race is not a sprint. It is a long run, and the hardest part is the middle when no one is watching, and my body is tired. That is where perseverance lives. It is not there at the start when I feel strong. It is not there yet at the end when I see the finish. It is lived in the quiet, unseen miles. Keep me running, Lord. Take off anything I am carrying that slows me down. The great cloud of witnesses is cheering. Jesus, the author and perfecter of my faith, is at the finish line. This race is not mine to quit. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
