Life Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped theme prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord Jesus, You said the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy, but You came to give life in abundance. I keep settling for less than that abundance. I have settled for a life that is not stolen, not killed, but also not full. A life that is just okay, not what You wanted. You did not come for a just-okay life. You came for a full one. That does not mean louder or busier or richer. It means a life with You in it, awake and paying attention, doing my daily work, and loving the people around me. Pull me out of this just-okay life. The thief takes small bites, mostly. Lead me back one small step at a time. Today, help me take one step toward the life You came to give me. Tomorrow, another. Keep me on that path until my life looks more like what You intended. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
