Gratitude Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped theme prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word says to give thanks in everything. That is the part I keep fighting with. You do not ask me to thank You for the cancer or the wreck. But You do ask me to find something real to thank You for inside the day You gave me. Train me in that. This week was hard. But there were three good things I have not said out loud yet. The cup of coffee my spouse made without being asked. The friend who texted for no reason. The small win at work that nobody else saw. Thank You for each one. I notice the hard things fast. Teach me to notice the good things just as fast. The good in my day deserves the same attention as the difficult, and it usually gets less. Change that in me. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray
