Generosity Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped theme prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You love a cheerful giver. That is what Your Word says in 2 Corinthians 9:7. But I have not always given that way. I have given because it was expected. I have given because I felt watched. I have given with a tight heart and a tight hand. Forgive me. What I give was Yours first. It was on loan to me, not mine to hold. And You have given to me with open hands and a wide heart. Help me see that again and again. Change my heart before You ask for my gift. A changed heart gives without strain. Loosen my grip. Let what I give to the church, to a friend in need, to the cause that calls — let it flow from joy, not guilt. Make me a cheerful giver, not a forced one. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
