Funerals Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped theme prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, today we buried someone we loved. The casket sat at the front of the church. The eulogies tried to say what words cannot quite say. But You spoke the truer comfort through John 11:25 — You are the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in You, even though they die, will live. That promise holds us up today. It does not stop our tears, but it gives our tears a place to rest. Hold the family. Hold the friends. Hold the small children in the pew who did not understand all that was happening and who will carry this day deep inside for years to come. Bless the pastor who spoke Your words. Bless the funeral home staff who did the quiet work behind the scenes. Receive our loved one into the rest You have promised, until the great morning when the graves give back what was placed inside. We grieve, but not without hope. Amen.
