Friendship Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped theme prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word says a friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for hard days. That kind of friendship is rare. It stays when the friend is no fun. It stays when there is nothing to give back. It stays when only showing up counts. I have been the friend who got bored when it was no longer easy. I have been the friend who drifted when life pulled us apart, and I did not fight to stay close. Make me the kind of friend who stays. Bring me one or two friends like that, too. Friends who would drive at night when I need them. Friends who would not leave when I changed jobs or beliefs or addresses. Help me live now for the friendship I say I would die for. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
