Family Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped theme prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, my family is not perfect. The lines I draw inside our house often get crossed before bedtime. My kids do not always serve You. My spouse does not always serve You. I do not always serve You. But the line itself — the declaration that this is our household's direction — that is mine to keep. Hold us as a family along the line. We are different. The seasons change. The days are mixed. But the line is the same. We will serve You, however imperfectly, however slowly. Keep us turned the right way.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
If it seems evil to you to serve Yahweh, choose today whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve Yahweh.”
Joshua 24:15
