Baptism Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped theme prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, You meant baptism to mark a death and a rebirth. The going-under was the burial. The coming-up was the resurrection. Romans 6:4 says we were buried with Christ into death so that we might walk in newness of life, just as He was raised. I have sometimes carried baptism as a ceremony from years ago without remembering that it was supposed to change the walk afterward. The newness of life is the point. Walk me in it today. The old man under the water stays under the water. The new man is the one I am supposed to live as now. If I am the one praying this as a believer not yet baptized, push me toward obedience without further delay. If I am praying for a friend or family member who is soon to be baptized, prepare their heart for what they are saying yes to. The water is small. The meaning is enormous. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
