Teens Prayer for July 4th

A short, Scripture-shaped teens prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, before I open anything else this morning, I open this. In John 17, Jesus prayed that we would be made holy by Your truth. Holy is Your word, and I want what it means, even if the word feels old to me. I think it means being real, the same on the inside as the outside. That is what I want. So much of my life is performance, especially online. Tear away the parts of me that are fake. Help me say what I mean, mean what I say, and stop saying what I do not mean. Today will throw a lot of stuff at me, group chats, opinions, and people I am trying to impress. Keep me steady in what is actually true about me, that I am loved by You and called to live like it. Make me someone who is honest, more than impressive. Make me someone who shows up and tells the truth in the small stuff. When this year ends, I want to be known as honest, not just impressive. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
