Teens Prayer for March 11th

A short, Scripture-shaped teens prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, I keep thinking real prayer is something other people do somewhere else, in some kind of light I do not have. But this is what I have: me on the carpet, a song stuck in my head, the dog pacing by the door. Even the good things in my life show me how messed up I am. The fact that I am supposed to be praying shows me how unready I feel. And that has to be okay. Because the alternative is never showing up. So I am here. Your Spirit groans for me with words I do not have. Let Him. I do not have to be a different person to pray. I just have to be the person I actually am, in this room, with my scattered brain. Tomorrow I come back. Five minutes. No judgment. Just showing up like I mean it. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. Did then that which is good become death to me? May it never be! But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, was producing death in me through that which is good; that through the commandment sin might become exceedingly sinful.
    Romans 7:13
