Teens Prayer for January 11th

A short, Scripture-shaped teens prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, my mind is already somewhere else. A song lyric. Something someone said yesterday. Whether I left my charger at school, this is what I have today.

Your Word says some seed springs up fast but withers because it has no root. That is me. I have not watered anything in days. I am here, half-distracted, mostly forgetting what I was going to say.

Take the bad prayer anyway. You are not impressed by the version of me that looks like it has it all together. You are not embarrassed by the distracted one; I actually am.

Help me notice You are already here. I do not have to call You into the room. The Spirit picks up what I drop. Romans 8:26 says He prays for me with groans too deep for words. That is a relief.

I will keep showing up. Even like this. Even for two minutes. Especially on mornings when I cannot finish a single thought.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered.
    Romans 8:26
  2. Those on the rock are they who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; but these have no root. They believe for a while, then fall away in time of temptation.
    Luke 8:13
