Teens Prayer for January 8th

A short, Scripture-shaped teens prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord, what if I fail? What if I get rejected by every school I'm applying to? What if the friend I'm losing is one I actually needed? What if the pain in my chest is something serious? I have been spending whole evenings in rooms that do not yet exist. I picture every bad thing that could happen, and I get stuck there. Even my best moments need You. So my fears definitely need You too. I am not asking You to make me certain about how everything turns out. I am asking for enough courage to do tomorrow morning what tomorrow morning will actually require. Help me finish the essay. Help me send the email. Help me sit through the conversation. Help me eat lunch with my real face on. Cut the imagined disasters off at the next true step. You hold the future. I do not need to. Give me a small amount of courage now, and another small amount tomorrow, and let that be enough. Amen.

  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
