Woman At The Well Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord Jesus, You were tired and thirsty. You chose to talk to a woman from Samaria. By every measure, it was an awkward conversation — she was a woman, a Samaritan, and her life was complicated. But You did not look away. You asked her for a drink. Then You moved from water to living water, from her past to her future, from her questions to the truth that You are the Messiah. She left her jar and ran to tell her village. Lord, make me like You at the well in the conversations of my day. Help me sit with the awkward person. Help me ask for something small first. Help me move toward the deeper need slowly, with respect, without flattery. Some of the people I meet will leave their jars, too, if the conversation goes well. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
