Transfiguration Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord Jesus, You were transfigured before them. Your face shone like the sun. Your clothes became white as light. Moses and Elijah talked with You. Peter wanted to build three tents and stay forever. Then the cloud covered them, and the voice said, This is my beloved Son; listen to him. Father, that day was a brief glimpse of the glory You carry even in ordinary days. The disciples saw what most would wait until the resurrection to see. Peter wanted to camp on that mountain. But the voice told him to listen. Lord, I have wanted to live on the mountaintop, too. But You call me to listen on the ordinary days that follow. Your glory is always there, even when I cannot see it. Make me a listener. Help me hear You in the plain and daily moments. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
