The Exodus Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You told Pharaoh, Let my people go. You broke their chains with Your strong arm. You led them out of slavery. You opened the sea. You brought them to freedom. Hold that same power over my life. I have patterns I cannot break by trying harder. I have shame I cannot wash away on my own. I have fears that keep me stuck. You are the God who frees people. You still do this kind of work. Break what needs breaking. Lead me out with Your strong hand. Let me reach the feast on the far side. Let me live as one of the freed. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. Afterward Moses and Aaron came, and said to Pharaoh, “This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘Let my people go, that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness.’”
    Exodus 5:1
