Sending Of The Twelve Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord Jesus, You sent out the twelve with clear instructions. Go to the lost sheep. Take no gold or silver. Carry nothing extra. Stay where You are welcomed. Shake the dust off Your feet where You are not. They actually went, with sandals and one tunic, and they came back with stories. You still send Your church today. Send me in my generation. The instructions may change, but the going does not. Make me a person who, when sent, actually goes. You supply what I need. Help me start walking. Send me to the lost sheep in my own neighborhood, with the simple supplies You provide. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
