Samson And Delilah Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Samson did not even know that You had left him. He woke up and shook himself, and expected his strength to be there as always. But it was gone. His hair was gone. His vow was broken. And the Spirit had departed without him noticing.

That is what scares me, Father. The worst thing about a long compromise is that it sneaks up on you. Samson gave Delilah the secret one night at a time. Each time it seemed small. He had survived three betrayals before. But the fourth one worked. The strength was gone because the consecration was gone. And the consecration was gone because the slow, quiet surrender had finally been completed.

Save me from that slow surrender. From the small, quiet ways I give away what should be guarded. Keep me from drifting so far that I do not even notice. Do not let me grieve Your Spirit without knowing it. Keep my heart set apart for You. Keep my consecration whole.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
