River From The Temple Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, in Ezekiel, You showed a river flowing from Your temple. It started small, but it grew until no one could cross it. Where that river went, everything came alive. Fish filled the water. Even the salty sea became fresh and full of life.

You showed the same river in Revelation, flowing from Your throne. It waters the tree of life, and its leaves bring healing to the nations.

Where You are, life is.

Send Your river into the dead places in my life. Send it into the places that feel broken and dry. Let Your living water reach the people I love, too.

This is not just a picture. You really do make dead things come back to life where Your river flows.

Let me go deeper into Your river than I have gone before.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. It will happen that every living creature which swarms, in every place where the rivers come, will live. Then there will be a very great multitude of fish; for these waters have come there, and the waters of the sea will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river comes.
    Ezekiel 47:9
  2. By the river banks, on both sides, will grow every tree for food, whose leaf won’t wither, neither will its fruit fail. It will produce new fruit every month, because its waters issue out of the sanctuary. Its fruit will be for food, and its leaf for healing.”
    Ezekiel 47:12
