Paul’s Farewell At Miletus Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord Jesus, Paul said he did not count his own life as more important than finishing the work You gave him. He said goodbye to the elders at Miletus. They wept. They held him. They kissed him at the harbor. He loved them, and he warned them. He did not hide the hard truth. He did not hold back his love. Make me like that. Help me love the people in my care without pretending. Help me speak the hard truth with a full heart. Let my care for others include both kindness and warning. Both are acts of love. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. But these things don’t count; nor do I hold my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to fully testify to the Good News of the grace of God.
    Acts 20:24
