Passover Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord Jesus, You are the Passover lamb. Long ago in Egypt, a lamb was killed at twilight. Its blood was painted on the doorposts. The family ate the meat with bitter herbs, sandals on their feet, ready to go. And when You saw the blood, You passed over that house. The angel of death did not enter. That night, the exodus began. Father, the blood on those doorposts pointed ahead to the blood of Jesus on the cross. The death that should have come to me passed over because Your blood was applied. The judgment that was mine has passed over because the Lamb was slain. Apply that blood again to the doorposts of my life. Begin a new exodus in me. Lead me out of every place that still feels like Egypt. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
The blood shall be to you for a token on the houses where you are. When I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
Exodus 12:13Purge out the old yeast, that you may be a new lump, even as you are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, has been sacrificed in our place.
1 Corinthians 5:7
