Olivet Discourse Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord Jesus, You said that no one knows the day or the hour — not even the angels, not even the Son, only the Father. You told us to watch, to stay awake, to be on guard. The disciples wanted timelines. You gave them postures instead. Watch. Be ready. Endure. Do not be deceived. Form those postures in me. I do not need to figure out every sign. I need to keep my lamp lit. Keep mine lit. The dawn that ends all dawns is coming on a day no one knows. Wake me daily, so I am ready when it comes. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
