Nehemiah’s Mission Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Nehemiah prayed before he asked the king for help. He did not just hope for the best. He prayed first, then he spoke. Make me like that. The next time I need to ask someone for something I cannot control, help me pray before I speak. You moved a king's heart long ago. You can move a boss, a board, or a family member today. Show me the broken wall in front of me. Give me the courage to start. Send me to the work only I can do. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

  2. and a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple, for the wall of the city, and for the house that I will occupy.”
