Nativity Birth Of Jesus Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, the angel said it to the shepherds in a field outside Bethlehem — for unto You is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Not to kings. Not to the powerful. To working men in the dark with their sheep. You chose the ones the world looked past. That choice means something. It means You come to the lowly. It means You come to me. Give me shepherd-ears — no special badge, no reason to expect it, just ready to leave what I am doing and go see. The baby in the manger was the answer to centuries of waiting. That same baby is the answer to my own smaller waitings. Christ the Lord is born. The news still travels along unusual paths. Tell me again. Send me, like the shepherds, to spread the word once I have heard it. Amen.
