Nadab And Abihu Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord, Nadab and Abihu brought fire You did not ask for, and it cost them their lives. That story shakes me. Your rules were clear. They chose their own way, and it was not small.

Father, I have done quieter versions of the same thing. I bend Your word so it fits my comfort. I call my choices creative when they are really disobedience. I make room for what I want and still call it worship.

Forgive me. I do not want strange fire in my life. I do not want to treat Your holiness as something I can adjust. You are God. I am not. Your way is right, even when it is hard.

Jesus, You offered me the true and final fire. Because of You, I can come to the Father. Help me bring You honest worship, not my own version. Keep me from changing what You have spoken.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
