Naboth’s Vineyard Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father,
Naboth refused to give up the vineyard his family had passed down. King Ahab wanted it. Jezebel used lies and had Naboth killed. The king took what was not his.
This is still the story of our day. Ordinary people are crushed by those who want what they have. The powerful still use lies. The methods may look different, but the heart is the same.
Bless the Naboths around us today. Stand with those who are being crushed. Send the Elijahs who will speak Your word, no matter the cost. You see what is done in secret. You know every lie.
Justice did come for Naboth. It came in Your time, not theirs. We ask You to vindicate the wronged in Your time as well.
The vineyard belonged to Naboth. The justice belongs to You.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
Naboth said to Ahab, “May Yahweh forbid me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to you!”
1 Kings 21:3When Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, Jezebel said to Ahab, “Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead.”
1 Kings 21:15Ahab came into his house sullen and angry because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him, for he had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” He laid himself down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.
1 Kings 21:4
