Light Of The World Discourse Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord Jesus, You said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." You spoke those words in the temple, at the Feast of Tabernacles, when great lamps were lit all through the city. The lamps lit up the night, and You were showing that You are the light of the world.
That claim is staggering. You are not just a light. You are the light. The one by whom we learn to see. Other paths give a little light, but You are the full light. You are enough for all of us.
You said, "Follow me." The light is for the followers, not for those who just stand and watch. So lead me into the next decision today. Let the light shine on the next step, not on the next ten years. Help me trust that the walking is the seeing.
Make me a follower who is content with light enough for the present step.
Amen.

- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
