Letters To The Seven Churches Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You spoke to seven churches — Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, Laodicea. Each one got praise, most got correction, and all got a promise for the one who conquers. Each letter ends the same way: He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

Some churches today are like Ephesus — they work hard but have lost their first love. Some are like Smyrna — hurting and faithful. Some are like Laodicea — lukewarm and sure of themselves. Most of us are a mix.

Look at my church with honest eyes. Show us where we are strong. Show us where we are wrong. Give us the promise You gave to the one who conquers.

The same Christ who walked among the seven lampstands walks among ours. He sees what is happening. He calls us to turn back where we need to turn back. He calls us to hold on where we need to hold on.

Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church I belong to.

Amen.

How to pray it

  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
