John On Patmos Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father,
John was sent away to a small island because he spoke Your word. He was old. He was far from home. The empire thought it had silenced him.
But You met him there.
You gave him a vision on that lonely rock. You turned his exile into a place of revelation. The church has read that vision for two thousand years.
Take heart, You told the disciples.Take heart, You told John.Take heart, You tell me when the noise of the world is too loud.
The place I have been pushed to may be the place where You speak next. The quiet place. The hard place. The place no one else wants.
Give me ears to hear You there.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
