Jesus At The Temple As A Boy Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, when Jesus was twelve, He stayed behind in the temple. His parents thought He was with the caravan home. But He was right where He belonged — in Your house, sitting among the teachers, listening and asking questions. He knew who He was and what You had called Him to do, even at twelve. Mary did not understand it all, but she treasured His words. Father, some young people in our churches feel that same pull toward Your house in seasons their parents do not understand. Honor the call You are placing on their lives. Help parents to treasure what they do not yet understand, instead of pushing it aside. The same Jesus who was about Your business at twelve is the Lord who calls our own children at unexpected ages. Make us willing to release them to Your call when it comes. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
