Hosea’s Marriage To Gomer Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord, You told Hosea to marry a woman who would leave him. He obeyed. She left. And he bought her back. That was Your love story with Israel. That is Your love story with me.
Father, I have not always been faithful. I have wandered. I have chased other things. The truth is, I have been the one who leaves.
But You are the one who comes after me. You are the one who pays the price to bring me home. You did it for Hosea's wife. You did it for me, at a cost I will never fully understand.
Do not let me keep wandering. Draw me back. Let Your love be the thing that finally settles me.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
When Yahweh spoke at first by Hosea, Yahweh said to Hosea, “Go, take for yourself a wife of prostitution and children of unfaithfulness; for the land commits great adultery, forsaking Yahweh.”
Hosea 1:2Yahweh said to me, “Go again, love a woman loved by another, and an adulteress, even as Yahweh loves the children of Israel, though they turn to other gods, and love cakes of raisins.”
Hosea 3:1
