Hezekiah’s Healing Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, You told Hezekiah to set his house in order because he was going to die. He turned his face to the wall and wept and prayed to You. You heard him. You sent Isaiah back with new words. You gave Hezekiah fifteen more years. You even made the shadow on the sundial move backward as a sign. Father, Hezekiah was not ready. The timing felt wrong to him, and he asked You for more time. You gave it. But those fifteen years were not simple. His son Manasseh was born at that time, and Manasseh became one of the worst kings Judah ever had. The extra years were both a gift and a burden. Father, teach me to pray like Hezekiah. Make me willing to ask You for what I need. But also teach me to trust You with the answer, even when the answer is more than I expected. I do not always know what is best. You do. Help me ask, and help me trust. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
