Hannah And Samuel Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Hannah was in deep pain. She had no child. Others mocked her. The priest thought she was drunk because her lips moved, but no sound came out. She was praying from a place too deep for words. She promised that if You gave her a son, she would give him back to You. You gave her Samuel. She kept her word. Father, bless the women and men who wait month after month for a child. Some prayers are answered with a baby. Some are answered with adoption. Some are answered with Your peace when the waiting does not end. Give each parent the wisdom to see what You are doing. And bless every child given back to Your service, like Samuel. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
