Hagar And Ishmael Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You are the God who sees. That is what Hagar discovered in the desert when she had nowhere else to go. She was used and cast aside, and yet You met her at a spring and saw her pain. You are still that God today. You see the single mother working a third shift. You see the immigrant whose name no one bothers to learn. You see the teenage girl hiding her hurt. You see the woman treated like a tool instead of a person. You see them all. Send help to them, Father, the way You sent help to Hagar. And make me someone who sees them too, and acts in Your name. You are the God of every misused woman and every fatherless child, and Your care has not run dry. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
