Gideons 300 Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You said You would save Your people with the three hundred men who lapped the water. Gideon started with thirty-two thousand. You made the army smaller twice. First You sent home those who were afraid. Then You chose only the men who stayed alert and lapped water like dogs while watching the horizon. Three hundred against the Midianites. You did it on purpose, so no one could say, 'We saved ourselves.' Father, I know I am quick to take credit for what You have done. When I have a lot of help, it is easy to forget it is Your hand at work. But when You use small things, there is no doubt who won. Three hundred men with jars and torches and trumpets did what a big army could never do on its own. Teach me to be content with small means if that is how You choose to work. The smaller the team, the clearer it is that the victory is Yours. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
