Foot Washing Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord Jesus, You are the Lord and Teacher, and You washed Your disciples' feet. You knelt with a towel. Your hands made the worlds, and You used them to wash dust off twelve pairs of feet. You even washed the feet of the man who would betray You that same night.

This is hard for me to follow. Peter fought it at first, too. He did not want You to wash his feet. But You said that without it, he had no share with You. So he let You.

Lord, I do not want to be the kind of leader who only wants to rise up. I want to go low. The towel is Your sign. It means small, quiet work that no one else sees. Make me a towel-bearer in my own life. Give me eyes to see the next person who needs what only I can do.

Wash my feet first. Clean me. Then put the towel in my hand and send me to the next pair of feet that need Your love through me.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
