A prayer to pray now
Father, You told Joseph in a dream: rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt. Joseph took the family at night and went. They became refugees, a young family in a foreign country, running from a king who wanted to hurt the child. They did not know the language. They did not know how long they would stay or how they would get by. The Son of God spent His earliest years as a refugee child. Hold the refugee families of our own day with the same care You held Joseph and Mary and the boy. There are more displaced people now than ever before. Provide for them. Make the countries that receive them welcoming. Make the churches that meet them generous. You who guided Joseph in dreams still guide the displaced in their flights. Out of Egypt You called Your Son. Out of every Egypt, call Yours. Amen.
