Feeding The 5000 Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord Jesus, there is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish. What are they for so many? Andrew brought the boy forward almost apologetically. The crowd was five thousand men, not counting women and children. The lunch was a child's lunch. You took it, gave thanks, broke it, and distributed it. Everyone ate. Twelve baskets of leftovers. The miracle started with a boy's lunch handed over without conditions. The small offering in the hand of Christ becomes more than enough. Take away my shame about the smallness of what I have to offer. The barley loaves were not impressive. The fish were ordinary. You did the multiplication. Give me a boy's willingness to hand over the lunch. Please feed the hungry around me as You do the breaking. Let the leftovers exceed the original offering. Feed the hungers around me from the loaves I would not have thought were enough. Amen.
