Feeding The 4000 Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, the disciples asked, how can one feed all these people out here in this desolate place? They had seen You feed the five thousand, and still they forgot. I do the same thing. I have seen You provide before, and when a new hard place comes, I forget. You took seven loaves and a few small fish. You gave thanks. You broke them open and passed them out. Four thousand people ate. Seven baskets were left over. That is still Your way. A small offering. Given thanks. Broken open. Shared. And there is more than enough. Cure my forgetfulness. The God who has fed me out of small resources before will feed me again. Save me from being so slow to trust You in this new, desolate place. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
