Farewell Discourse Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord Jesus, You said, "Let not Your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me." You spoke those words the night before You died. You knew what was coming. You knew how Your friends would run. You knew what the cross would be. And still You gave them comfort.

You promised the Spirit who would be with them. You promised a place prepared for them. You promised that You would come again and take them to Yourself. Those words held them through the worst weekend of their lives. Those words held them through the rest of their days.

Speak those same words into me now. Let not my heart be troubled. The same Christ who comforted the eleven that night comforts me now. The Father's house has many rooms. The room is being prepared. The return is real.

Hold me through the present trouble until then.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
