Ezra’s Reform On Mixed Marriages Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Your people in Ezra faced a hard truth — that marriages built on divided worship carry a cost that shows up in the children, in the holiday calendars, in the prayers prayed silently because the spouse will not pray them too. That truth has not changed. A marriage to someone whose heart is directed elsewhere is a covenant entered at a price the believer may not yet feel. Help the one praying this prayer about a current relationship think soberly before making that promise. Help the one already in such a marriage to love faithfully and pray without stopping. You are the God of Ezra, and You are the God of restoration. You can hold even the household that was built before this wisdom was learned. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Ezra 10:11Now while Ezra prayed and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before God’s house, there was gathered together to him out of Israel a very great assembly of men and women and children; for the people wept very bitterly.
