Doubting Thomas’ Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord Jesus, You met Thomas right where his doubt lived. He said he would not believe unless he could see Your hands and touch Your side. So You came back and showed him exactly that. You did not scold him. You gave him what he said he needed. And Thomas, the one we still call Doubting Thomas, was the one who said the truest thing — my Lord and my God. Meet me at my own doubts. The doubts I name out loud are easier to face than the ones I try to hide. Show me what I need to see. I would rather be Thomas at the end of the chapter than Thomas at the start. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
Then he said to Thomas, “Reach here your finger, and see my hands. Reach here your hand, and put it into my side. Don’t be unbelieving, but believing.”
John 20:27When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore were glad when they saw the Lord.
John 20:20
