David And Goliath Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, when David faced Goliath, he said, "You come to me with a sword and a spear and a javelin, but I come to You in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom You have defied." He was a teenager with a sling. The giant was a nine-foot warrior. By every human measure, the fight was unfair. But David trusted the name of the Lord, not the size of the odds.
David refused Saul's armor. He picked up five smooth stones from the brook. He used the sling he already knew. He ran toward the giant as a shepherd who had fought lions and bears, and he confessed that the Lord of hosts was the One showing up to fight.
Father, the Goliaths in my life look impressive. I have wanted to put on Saul's armor to face them, borrowed credibility, borrowed methods, borrowed confidence. Let me use the sling I actually know how to use. The fight is Yours. The stones are mine to pick up. I come in the name of the Lord of hosts. Bring the giant down.
Amen.
