Choosing Of The Seven Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, in Acts 6, the early church had a real problem. Some widows were being missed when food was shared each day. The apostles did not ignore it, but they also could not stop praying and teaching to fix it alone. So they chose seven men full of Your Spirit and wisdom to take on that work. And the church grew even more because each person served in the way You gifted them. Father, teach my church the same lesson today. Not every job is for every person. Some are called to teach. Some are called to serve. Some are called to lead. Every part of the body matters. Help us see the difference. Help me know the work You have for me and not wish I had someone else's. Free those who pray and teach to keep doing that work. And remind all of us that no task done for You is small. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
