Birth Of Jacob And Esau Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, two children struggled inside Rebekah before they were even born. She asked the question every hurting parent asks: “Why is this happening to me?” You answered with a promise. Two nations were in her womb, and the older would serve the younger. That struggle before birth foreshadowed the rivalry to come between Jacob and Esau and between the nations that came from them. Father, the conflicts inside our homes have sometimes been there since before our children could speak. Bless the parents of warring siblings. The struggle is not Your absence. It is part of the messy material You use to build Your story of redemption. Rebekah's sons grew into a brother who deceived and a brother who was deceived, and yet You kept Your promise alive through Jacob. You can hold our homes together, too. Make the older and the younger able to embrace, just as Jacob and Esau finally did. Amen.
