Beatitudes Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father,

Blessed are the poor in spirit. Blessed are those who know they need You. That is not how the world sees it. The world calls the successful blessed. The healthy. The well-resourced. And honestly, my own list has looked more like the world's than Yours.

But You bless the ones who come with empty hands. The ones who mourn and do not hide it. The ones who are gentle when fighting back would be easier. The ones who hunger to see things made right. The merciful. The pure in heart. The peacemakers. The ones who suffer for doing right.

These are not eight separate things to check off. They are what Your people look like.

So make me poor in spirit the next time I want to pretend I have it all together. Make me someone who sits with grief instead of running from it. Make me gentle when my first instinct is to defend myself.

Form me into a citizen of Your kingdom, not across some far-off someday, but today, in the ordinary moments right in front of me.

Amen.
